“Oh my goodness. I cannot say enough about the service provided by Pure Maintenance’s staff. First, Scott who I initially met with me virtually since I reside in another state and the property with the mold issue is in another. Scott was able to explain to me the science of mold, what needed to be done to remediate and how to prevent it from coming back. He was thorough in all of his explanations and inspections. Ry, who performed the work. Ry is a rockstar. He came to the house and did the most thorough evaluation of the house pointing out areas that needed to be addressed before performing the work. Due to unforeseen circumstances, he had to perform the entire job alone and stayed until after 10pm making for a 12+ hour work day and he had a two hour commute back home. What dedication. “This is a very good company. Scott Kennemer, the consultant, was very personable and knowledgable and sold me on the service. Dee, the technician, did a very professional and thorough job, and there were little details and touches that I noticed afterward that showed me that he treated my home with the utmost care. This company will do everything they promise and even go above board to take care of you. They have my highest recommendation if this is a service that you need. My home feels clean and pure and thoroughly washed and disinfected inside since they came. Other people who have been here have remarked on how good it feels as well. The only thing I would say is to do your research first about the different strains of mold to see if it is really imperative for you to have the full treatment. It is expensive. Scott was right that I could save $800 on the preliminary air test because Before and After testing was built into the treatment fee, and he was sure I had mold in the house so it would be $800 wasted. So I agreed to schedule the full treatment. I am not unhappy that I did. It was a major improvement to my home. However, if I had done the air test first it would have revealed that I had zero presence of the black mold strain, Statchybotrys, that I was most worried about. There was also zero presence of two other strains that together indicate that mold is probably growing in the house. The fairly high concentration of mold that I did have was of a strain called Basidiospores that comes in from outside, and there are different opinions as to whether it is harmful to those who are not sensitive to it. The treatment did reduce the level of that strain significantly. With that said, knowing that I did not have any black mold in my house, I am not sure I would have ordered the treatment at this time, because I thought I needed treatment for black mold. Also, an important component of the treatment for me was the treatment of my crawlspace. I had had a rat infestation a couple years ago and had a boric acid treatment applied in the crawlspace. After the mold fogging, I researched and discovered that boric acid dramatically reduces the effectiveness of the peracetic acid fog used by Pure Maintenance. Specifically, it accelerates the splitting of the peracetic acid into its component parts, which are hydrogen peroxide and vinegar, by a factor of 12. One solution to fogging with peracetic acid where boric acid is present is to increase the concentration of the peracetic acid, which was not done in my case because the fact that I had boric acid in my crawlspace had not been identified. I wish this is something that could have been identified and discussed before my treatment with Pure Maintenance. This is my full and honest review. Pure Maintenance is a great company, and they offer a fantastic service. I didn't know that fogging was even available for mold. I had thought that walls had to be ripped out to treat mold. So, If you need this service, and can afford it, you will be extremely happy that you had the treatment done.”
Every mold remediation should end with clearance testing. If your contractor didn’t offer it, that alone is worth a second look, because nobody confident in their work objects to having it verified. Insurance adjusters usually want lab results in hand before they’ll close a claim. Real estate deals in Birmingham stall without clearance documentation, because buyers and lenders aren’t going to accept "trust me, it’s fine" when mold was part of the disclosure. Clearance testing follows the same method we use for our initial air quality checks. We pull samples with Air-O-Cell cassettes and a calibrated pump from the rooms that were treated, from your main living areas, and from outside your front door so we have a baseline to compare against. Everything goes to an independent, accredited lab for microscopic analysis and spore counts by genus. The lab then compares your indoor numbers to the outdoor control, and that comparison is the accepted benchmark for a clean home: indoor levels should come in below outdoor levels. You get the full lab report, not a one-page summary we typed up ourselves. When we’re testing after our own VaPURE work, we don’t grade our own homework. We let the data speak for itself. Sampling takes about an hour on site, and lab turnaround is usually two to three business days.
Price comes down to how many samples we collect, which depends on the size of your home and how much of it was actually treated. A single room is a smaller job than a whole basement or a two-story house with multiple affected areas. You get a clear quote before we start sampling, and what we quote is what you pay.
